I first started my
freelance writing career when I was just fourteen years old. I had been
reading teenage magazines for a year or two, and I realized that I could
write something just as good as the articles I saw in the magazines. So
I wrote a 1000-word article and submitted it. Much to my amazement, it
was accepted, and it appeared in print a few weeks later.
Seeing my name in
print was great, but what was even better was that I received a check in
the post a short time later. And that was what really got me started. It
was fantastic! To think that I could get paid well for doing something
that I found so interesting and enjoyable. I decided right there and
then that I would make a career out of freelance writing.
Nowadays, I do all
kinds of freelance writing jobs for all kinds of companies and people. I
find the work to be very rewarding, and extremely interesting, too.
Whereas many of my friends and relatives are stuck with boring jobs that
don't really interest them in the least, I spend my time working on jobs
that really stretch my imagination, and give me a great deal of personal
satisfaction.
The nature of the
freelance writing jobs I undertake can vary considerably. Sometimes I
write articles for magazines and newspapers, and other times I do
copywriting for advertising agencies or for other big companies in my
area. I find this to be a very creative mix, and that is what keeps me
motivated to keep on writing. It's true that there are times when I get
up in the morning, and don't feel like writing another 1000 words on
some boring subject that I have covered many times before. But most of
the time it isn't like that. You never know what is going to come up
when the phone rings. The work is always varied, and usually challenging
in one way or another.
People often ask me
where I find my freelance writing jobs. Well, they come from many
different places, but the most reliable source is
Freelance Work Exchange.
